10 Picture Books for Children about the Fall Season

10 Autumn Picture Books to Read on any Tablet -- if you have a projection app or a projector, you can share the book on your whiteboard or other bigger screen, like a TV or a bigger computer, and kids can watch the interactions on the book from you, such as highlights, drawings.
Clifford's First AutumnClifford’s First Autumn (Age 2-3):
We loved all Clifford books. Don’t you? In this one, kids will follow Clifford and find out what it is like in autumn through the red dog’s eyes – have fun jumping in the leaves, chasing the footfall, and picking out the first pumpkin.

A Is for Autumn (Age 3 – 6):
It is a nature themed alphabet book with beautiful pictures. With carefully chosen seasonal changes ordered alphabetically, kids learn about seasonal change and letters all at the same time. The sentences in the book are pretty long, so young kids will need help. Still it is a great read for preschool and early readers.

Little Critter: The Fall Festival (Age 4 – 8):
Another fun Little Critter book by Mercer Mayer. With typical Little Critter humors, kids will enjoy following the Critter family driving out to the country for a Fall Festival. They will watch the leaves that are changing colors, eat apples, drink apple cider, go on a tractor hay ride, pick out pumpkins, and play horseshoes… It is a wonderful read for the season. After reading the book, you can try do some activities little critter did.

The Busy Little Squirrel (Age 1 – 4):
It is a delightful book teaching children about hibernation. Kids will be curious to find out why can’t the squirrel nibble with the mice, hop with the frogs, or run with the dogs.  This is a great book helping kids learn different animals too.

Mouse’s First Fall (Age 2 – 6):
This is a book in the Mouse’s First series. The bright pictures will invite kids in a fun read with the mouse. Kids can follow Mouse and Minka to discover the changes of the season and fun things you can do:  run through the leaves, look at their shapes, pile them up, and play hide-and-seek.

Apples and Pumpkins (Age 4 – 8):
It is a simple story about things that a family can do in autumn: apple picking, pumpkin picking, and carving a jack-o-lantern. The bright autumn-colored pictures bring out the joy and satisfaction of the fall season. This will be a pleasant read about the season.

Apples, Apples, Apples (Age 6 – 8):
Follow Minna and her family for a day at Long Hill Orchard, kids learn everything about apples: their characteristics, uses, their lifecycle. Also included in the book are some apple related activities. The cut-paper pictures are eye-catching and provide a unique 3D effect.

Autumn is Here (Age 2 – 6):
This is a fun read about the season for kids. Kids will learn how things changes along with the season. The short sentences are easy for early readers. The watercolor illustrations are beautiful, make you want it be fall all the time.

Awesome Autumn (Age 4 and up):
Here is the description on Amazon about this book: “With colorful photographs, lively explanations, and classic craft ideas, Bruce Goldstone has created a festive and fascinating exploration of autumn’s awesomeness.” It is amazing how many seasonal facts are talked in this book. It is a great learning book for you and your child to read together.

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves (Age 3 – 5):
From Lucille Colandro There Was An Old Lady series, illustrated by Jared Lee. I loved the illustrations, they are fun.  “There was an old lady who swallowed some leaves. I don’t know why she swallowed those leaves….” Read the book to find out why!
