FREE App: ABCmouse.com – The Grand Canyon

Post image for FREE App: ABCmouse.com – The Grand Canyon

ABCmouse.com’s Search and Explore: The Grand Canyon is the first title of the ABCmouse.com’s Search and Explore series.  ABCmouse.com is a fee-based pre-school/kindergarten website with learning games and books.  The Search and Explore Series teaches young children about geography, national landmarks, and points of interest around the world through engaging stories featuring computer mice named as ABC, 123, and DoReMi.

The mice inside the computer decide to visit Grand Canyon.  They travel to a computer in a ranger station near the mouth of the canyon…  They explore the park and learn interesting facts about the Grand Canyon.  Then they go back to the computer…  What a fun way to explore the world!

There are three ways to read the book:

Read to me: the book is read aloud from start to finish.  The pages automatically turn.  The words don’t highlight when read, however “Speech bubbles” will appear when each character speaks.  The narration is upbeat and age appropriate.

Read with Pause: the book is read aloud, pausing between pages.  The reader can turn the pages by swiping the screen.  Make sure to tap the page several times to get all the “speech bubbles” on that page before swiping to turn the page.  Otherwise, you will miss part of the story.

I can read it: the book is not read aloud.

On two pages and at the end of the book, there is a “search and explore” game for kids to find animals on the pages.  There is a “Grand Canyon” song, kids sure will love.  The “Glossary” section has definitions for some words that appeared in the book.

iGameMom Comments:

ABCmouse.com’s Search and Explore: The Grand Canyon is a fun story teaching kids interesting facts about Grand Canyon.  Besides reading and vocabulary, kids also learn history and the natural world.  Kids 4 and up should be able to enjoy the app.  Kids who cannot read by themselves should be able to use the “Read to me” option.  Kids who can read some comic books should be able to use the “I can read it” option.

It works on iPhone, iPod and iPAD.  It is now available FREE at App Store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the link provided. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support!

Grand Canyon is the first app in their “search and explore” series. Looks like it is an app series, not on their web content yet.

They have been around quite long. I did not use them, but have heard good things about them from friends. They offer one month free, so won’t hurt to give it a try if you are looking for some fun early education tools.
