A Parent’s Review of Cozmo’s Day Off

Cozmo,s Day Off

Today’s review is from Naomi Esterly.  She is a stay-at-home mom to two rambunctious, yet adorable, little boys and a newborn baby girl. She is a writer for MyProjectorLamps.  Today she is sharing an app her kids love – Cozmo’s Day Off.

With such a wide variety of free and paid storybook apps available today, it is hard for parents to choose ones that their children will enjoy and also learn from. Cozmo’s Day Off accomplishes both, along with adding fun, interactive opportunities for children to become a part of Cozmo’s story.

Cozmo’s Day Off is a ten page book with a space themed story line about a quirky little alien named Cozmo. He wakes up and tries to get himself ready for the day but just about anything and everything that can go wrong does. After getting ready, he jets out around his universe while kids follow along and partake in his wild and wacky adventures.

Cozmo’s Day Off is geared toward children between the ages of 3 and 7 but will surely be enjoyed by most parents as well. While reading the story, children can see the words being highlighted to help improve vocabulary recognition and reading comprehension. There is also the added bonus of word association throughout by encouraging children to touch the pictures, watch them come alive and hearing their names and sounds. Children can also turn off narration and read the story themselves. For advanced readers, the highlighted text boxes can be hidden and there are convenient buttons to repeat text, hide/show word associations and adjust the volume and narration as well. This app couldn’t possibly have more to offer but it does.Cozmos Day Off Book App

To make it even more exciting, Cozmo’s Day Off gives children and parents the opportunity to record their own voice and play it back. It also provides endless fun by allowing you to record voices and change the pitch higher or lower. Make sound effects while reading or just have fun with it while also learning how to read.

One of my favourite features about Cozmo’s Day Off is how interactive it is. Children will feel like they’re part of Cozmo’s world by touching and tapping the illustrations on each page. Kids can make them move, hear the sounds they make and hear the word associated as well. There are also tons of activities and games children can play that match the retro galactic theme of the story line. Educational games, such as puzzles to create a picture and memory games to match objects in the story, will keep your children entertained and help them with fine motor skills at the same time. There are also activities that include tilting the phone or iPad to balance objects and expand story book pages to reveal secret, hidden objects! The science fiction fanatics in your family will get a kick out of shooting with Cozmo’s laser as well!

Cozmo’s Day Off works on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD, it is $3.99 on App Store.  There is a lite version as well for free.  Currently this app is not available on Android devices or digital reading devices such as the Nook or Kindle. With such rave reviews, we are hopeful that it will soon expand the market and make it available in the Google Play market as well.

Do you have Cozmo’s Day off?  How do you like it?  Would you like to share an app your child likes?  If you have an app would like to share, please let me know.  My contact is on the contact page under “About” at the top-left corner of the whole website.
