Leo’s Pad Appisode 1 is an interactive animated appisode designed for preschoolers by a team including Stanford University education experts. It is about the adventures of the 8-year-old boy Leonardo da Vinci and his friends. If you are not sure what appisode is (like me), you can think of appisode as an episode of a TV series. Leo’s Pad Appisode 1 is Free, but the following Appisodes are not.
What I like the most about this free app is it blends the learning activities into the story, and kids stay active during the whole Appisode. In the “For parents” section, there is a curriculum listing 7 areas the app addresses: Control yourself, figure stuff out, gather necessary knowledge, … All these are so-called soft skills, that are crucial for kids’ future success but hard to teach. Leo’s Pad has a good set up to have all these elements fit in seamlessly.
Introduction from the App Store:
Leo’s Pad puts your child in the middle of adventures with lovable characters and then gets them interacting with story-relevant learning material when engagement is at its peak—a perfect time for children to develop age-appropriate cognitive, academic, social/emotional, and physical/sensory skills. Even better, the games in Leo’s Pad adapt to give your child an optimal playing and learning experience. Additionally, the results from the game play help parents understand their childrens’ strengths and development areas via our For Grown-ups section.
• Enchanting stories from our Emmy-winning creative director
• Interactive games that help children learn shapes, colors, number sense, drawing, letter identification, and puzzles
• Mixture of exploratory, creative and problem-solving activities
• Modeling of social skills like turn-taking and empathy
• Co-play activities in which parents and children interact with Leo’s Pad together
• Fun and memorable songs
