We’re big fans of Richard Scarry so anything we come across of his in app form is very exciting. One of our personal favorite pages of Richard Scarry’s Best First Book Ever is of all the different silly cars. There’s a pickle car, a pencil car, even an egg car. So imagine our excitement when we discovered this app is about spelling out the different kinds of cars stopped at the stop light? Once you spell them correctly, the car gets to go and a cute kid’s voice yells out…PICKLE CAR! or PEANUT CAR! or whatever crazy car your child’s correct spelling has set free.
The App is simple and clear with five different settings to adjust the level of difficulty to your child. Levels 1 and 2 allow your child to match letters to make words and then to learn left and right order. Levels 3 and 4 moves into phonics to help your child spell using letter sounds with visual hints, and then letter sounds with no visual hints. Level 5 leaves kids on their own to spell sight words and big words. There is also the option to do all uppercase letters or all lowercase.
Whatever you choose, it’s a fun and silly way to approach spelling if your child is just beginning or if they just need some reinforcement.
The app features 42 different Richard Scarry vehicles including everything from Lowly Worm’s Apple Van to the iconic Toothpaste Car, so your child will have enough to enjoy and learn.
