What do you do after dinner as a family? For a while, we have been doing tongue twisters and we all love it. It is a fun way to bond with kids and it is a good activity to help kids understand the importance of speaking words clearly when they talk. Kids learn words and phrases, practice their mouth muscles, and enjoy the family fun.
The book we’ve been using is a FREE iBook Tongue Twisters for Kids. It is also available on Kindle for free. It has a good selection of tongue twisters, from the traditional ones “She sells seashells by the seashore” and “How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood”, to some less known ones “On a lazy laser raiser lies a laser ray eraser”. Quite a few of them are short ones with just several words, which is great for young kids, like “Cheap ship trip”, “Freshly-fried flying fish”.
Each tongue twister is accompanied by a fun picture illustrating it. The pictures are simple and kids can even draw some themselves. It could be a good practice to have the child draw a picture of the tongue twister he/she has mastered, and for younger kids these could be coloring pages made out of the book.
I also see this as a good kids party activity. You can make it into a game for kids taking turns to say one and whoever says it right gets to pick a prize.
One thing to be noted is at the end of the book, there are links to the authors other books. Make sure to set up iTunes password and set it up that every purchase need a password. Doing tongue twisters is a fun family activity for all. Tongue Twister for Kids is a good starting book for kids. Even young kids can do some of those in the book. Plus it is free, worth checking it out.
