Learning phonics is an important step towards reading success. But sometimes it is not that easy to distinguish the short vowel and long vowel sounds. Today’s app is a great phonics app helping kids get efficient on short vowels and long vowels. It is a fun game like workbook for kids, it is free for limited time. In addition to short vowel and long vowel practice, it also has letter tracing, spelling, and sight words, so even you think your kids don’t need short vowel and long vowel practice, you may still want to check it out. 
For each letter, there are 3 types of games in the app:
Tracing the letter and then find the words with the letter: kids trace both upper and lower case letters, then tap on words that have that letter. Each time kids tap on a word, the word is read aloud to them.
Tap the items that have short/long vowel sound of a letter: at the top of the screen, kids see an example, like picture of spider web with the word Web for short E sound. At the bottom half of the screen, kids see 5 to 6 objects for them to choose from. If they choose the right item, they get a star. If they choose the wrong item, they need choose again. No matter they choose the right or wrong item, they hear the corresponding word read aloud to them.
Select the right letter to fit in the word: kids see a picture next to a word with missing letter. They need pick a letter from several options to complete the word. If they choose the right letter, the word is read aloud and shown as a complete word. If they choose a wrong letter, the letter will bounce back leaving the word in-complete.

Phonics Fun: Long and Short Vowel Sounds is a well designed interactive workbook on phonics for kids. It allows kids to work at their pace. In addition to phonics, it also addresses some spelling and letter writing. It is a good practice app to have.
