Daniel Tiger’s Grr-ific Feelings: Fun App Teaching Kids About Feelings

Daniel Tiger Grr-ific Feelings App

PBS is one of the most trusted resources in our family so I generally feel like I’m in good hands with any game or activity they come up with for my pre-schooler.  This Daniel Tiger’s Grr-ific Feelings is no exception, based on Mr. Roger’s neighborhood, the whole feel  is gentle and sweet.  What’s so special about this app though is its staying power off screen. Learn About Feelings from Daniel Tiger - A fun app from PBS Kids

The app offers various activities to help kids put names to their feelings and begins a discussion about strategies to handle them.

The trolley board game holds several mini games about identifying feelings.

The photo booth asks your child to take snapshots of what they think they look like when they experience different emotions.

There is a place to draw pictures and use stickers of various Daniel Tiger characters as they experience different emotions.

Lastly there is a sing along area about feelings, the most surprising spot in this app.  The songs have a tendency to stick in your head and as a grownup person I will not lie — they can stick in there  all day.  (ALL DAY!)  But then one day, when my son was frustrated because he couldn’t get his boots on, I heard him quietly sing to himself…

When you feel so mad that you wanna ROAR.  Take a deep breath and count to four.

My husband and I looked at each other with huge grins and now the songs are a part of our everyday parenting arsenal.

When something seems bad, turn it around and find something good.

See what it is you might feel better.  See what it is you might not be afraid.

Daniel Tiger offers these bits of singable wisdom and more.  He’s like a preschooler’s Yoda.

Enjoy.
