Everyday Mathematics Apps for Addition and Comparison post image

McGrow Hills has a series of math apps based on Everyday Mathematics. Today two of them are free for limited time: Monster Squeeze and Addition Top It. Both apps are designed to be played by two children, but can also be played by one child. Monster Squeeze is to compare the numbers, Addition Top It is simple addition. Both are available on iPhone and iPad, Monster Squeeze is also available on Google Play. Fun Math App for Numbers and Additions

Monster Squeeze is designed to help kids recognize numbers and compare the numbers. The number range can be adjusted based on children’s ability. It can be 1 to10, or 5-15, or 10-20. The highest level is 20-30.

Kids are asked to take turns to guess a secret number. After each guess, a monster marks out the area that is less or greater than the number kids guess. If the guess is less than the secret number, the monster marks the area less than the number the kid guessed. If the guess is greater than the secret number, the monster marks the area that is greater than the number of the child’s guess. 2 children take turns to guess the number, and the gap between the two marked areas gets smaller and smaller, till one child guesses the correct number. There are 5 games in each round, kid who give the most correct guesses get the higher score and win the game.

Addition Top It lets kids play with addition and comparison. Kids take turns to deal the cards, two for each player. Each player add the two numbers on his/her side. The child who dealt the card picks the side that has greater sum. Kids win points for doing the addition correctly, and for having the bigger sum. Kids play 8 games in each round. The one who gets the higher score win the game. All additions are for single digits.

Both apps have very good instructions on how to play the games. Kids can use the app between friends or use it by one person. Both apps are available on iPhone, iPod and iPad. Monster Squeeze is also available on Google Play.
