Math Ahoy helps your child think about addition in a new light by adding the amount of movement the wind will give you plus the movement you add from the Ship’s steering wheel. Your child will count how many spaces he needs to move to get to the next city to plunder treasure and so he needs to change the wheel accordingly:
Wind + Wheel = Spaces to move
    Ex. 2 + ? = 8

For my homeschooled kindergartener we used guessing/estimation and a part part whole mat to solve the problems.

This app has 3 levels with each level gaining another one of the King’s ships who try and chase you down. There is a small amount of subtraction if your child lands in a storm cloud but these are easily avoided so you would have to purposefully land on them (instead of a town where there is treasure) to practice subtraction.

The app is simple and straightforward and can give your child another level of storytelling to his math adventures but I feel that the price of $1.99 was a little steep for a game that is repetitive and can be beat in an hour by a 5 year old.

Great addition practice but not enough content and variation to warrant the price.
