Chess Academy for Kids

Chess Academy for Kids post image

Chess Academy for Kids is a Chess Tutorial app designed for kids. It teaches how to play chess, from the very basic, like what is each piece, rules for the movements, winning strategies. It is a handy tool for kids to learn the game on their own.

There are 140 lessons in the app. I like how visual the instruction is. For example, the first lesson is about King. When it teaches how King move, kids will see the King on the chess board, and all the places the King can move to has a shaded King. After each lesson, there are always practices. For the first 2 lessons about the King, kids are asked to move the King on the board. If kids move it to a wrong spot, the app will tell them it is wrong and ask them to try again, till they do it correctly. Learn Chess on iPad

If the kids have gone through one lesson, and want to practice more for that lesson before moving on, they can choose “Practice” on home screen. They can then choose the corresponding unit they want to practice more and go from there.

The app keeps track of each user’s progress. When restart the app after a break, kids will see a check mark next to the lessons and practices they have finished, and they can start from the place they stopped last time.

On the home screen, kids can see their overall progress. There is a chart showing the percentage of the whole course each user has finished.

At any time, kids can play games, against a friend or against the computer.

iGameMom Comments:

Chess Academy is a nice app teaching kids chess. It is great for those who can’t find a tutor or a place to learn. It is also helpful that kids can learn at their own pace.

Since all instructions are written on the screen, it is most suitable for kids who can read independently. For younger kids, if a parent or sibling can read with them, they should be able to follow the content and learn as well.

Chess Academy is available on iPhone, iPod and iPad. It is $4.99 on App Store. It is now free for limited time.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
