App Went Free: Cool Science Experiments for Young Kids

Piiig Labs

Science concepts can be taught at a young age. The challenge is to make the concepts easy, fun and safe for the young kids to play with. Piiig Labs offers cool science experiments for kids, and it does a wonderful job in letting kids to do the experiments hands-on on their own, safely.  The added bonus – science experiments without the mess!

Piiig Labs offers a digital playground for young children to explore science concepts in an old fashioned way, by putting together mini projects and learning through interaction and sometimes trial and error. By being “hands on” in the building process, kids get an inside look at how things work! Science experiments for young kids

There are currently 8 science experiments in the app with more to come. For each experiment, kids need assemble everything first to make it work. It is like solve a jigsaw puzzle. They have to put the right pieces into the right place to make the experiment even possible. For the Volcano experiment, kids need put a bottle on the working area, and then the volcano on top of the bottle. After they put the setting together, they will see baking soda and vinegar. They can then put both baking soda and vinegar into the bottle and watch volcano erupt on the screen.

Each time an item is picked, kids hear the item’s name be said aloud to them, so they learn the equipment they need. On the left side of the screen, there is a light bulb holding a question mark. Tapping on the question mark brings up science explanations of the experiment, such as what is in vinegar and baking soda, and what happens when you mix them together, what is the science terminology for that reaction, what is the scale scientists use to measure the acidic or basic level. After all the science explanation about the experiment, the app gives some related fun facts, like acids taste sour and bases taste bitter.

iGameMom Comments:

Piiig Labs is designed for kids from 3-7 years old. Some experiments can be easily done at home with easily accessible materials, such as baking soda, vinegar and food color. One of my favorite is the colorful volcano where kids can call out the color of the lava and create the color they called out with the food color they have.
