App Went Free: Patterns by EdNinja

Patterns by EdNinja

Pattern recognition is an important skill for early math learners.  Patterns by EdNinja is a perfect app for this purpose.

With the app, kids have to quickly analyze the pattern, relate and select an image to fill in the blanks at the beginning, middle or end of the pattern.  Depends on kids ability level, teachers or parents can add contours, colors and shapes into the patterns.  What is neat is the app has a way to make sure each child gets new patterns every time he/she plays! This will for sure help keep kids’ interest.

There are five levels of play.  Kids unlock the new levels by winning stars. For each of five patterns they solve correctly, they win a star. It takes 12 stars to unlock the next level.  The 5 levels are: Airplane, Food, Train, Car, and Outer Space. Patterns by EdNinja App Review on iGameMom

The amount of different patterns the app carries is impressive.  Each of the five levels has about 60 different patterns.  What make the app attractive is the shapes they used are not limited to geometry shapes.  They are objects kids see in their daily life.

The ability to adjust the difficulties based on kids’ level is also a nice feature.  This means kids who answered all questions correctly will see more difficult pattern problems than kids who only answered half of the problems correctly.

There is a “For Parents” section that requires solving a math problem to get in.  In the section, parents can get instructions on how to use the app.  Parents and teachers can track multiple kids progress like number of practices and correct answers.
