Walking with Dinosaurs

Do your children like dinosaurs? Many children are captivated by these fascinating creatures and there is so much to learn about them. Recently, the Walking with the Dinosaurs franchise revamped their app with better graphics and latest facts, and for limited time, they have it for free.  Even if you are not very interested in dinosaurs, this is still an app worth to check out. Walking with Dinosaurs

There are 3 parts in the app: Features, Dinosaurs, and Dinosaur Hunters. The most amazing features of the app is the 3D models. Kids can enlarge the picture, rotate the figure and watch the dinosaur in action from different angels.

Features:

Here kids can find a lot of background knowledge information about dinosaurs, such as What were the Dinosaurs, Triassic Period, Dinosaur Island, Diets of Dinosaurs, The Dino Mummy. There are over 20 multi-media articles, all based on thorough research. Each article is several paragraphs long, with 3-D models or videos. All are narrated by actor, writer and presenter Stephen Fry. Given the article length and narration, especially with the 3D models and videos, even young kids could try to go through them, although they are not specially designed for young children.

Dinosaurs:

This is the most amazing part of the app. Here kids can find over 60 fully animated interactive and photorealistic dinosaurs. Sliding through the dinosaur pictures, kids can pick any one they would like to learn more about. Once they pick one, they will see the picked dinosaur walking towards them in the center of the screen. It is very realistic. If you cannot hear the narration, you can tab on the little speaker button on the top right corner of the screen to turn the narration on.

There are two pages of content for each dinosaur. The cover page is mostly key facts, such as habitat, body length and height. Sliding the page up, kids will be able to see the 2nd page, where they can find more detailed information with 3D pictures.

Dinosaur Hunters:

There are 15 famous dinosaur hunters in this section, starting from Mary Anning from 18th century to Xu Xing who is still alive. Kids will see their pictures and their contribution to research and discovery of dinosaurs.
