Bob Books Reading Magic Sight Words

Bob Books Reading Magic Sight Words post image

I reviewed the first two Bob Books Reading Magic Apps and loved them. Now the series launched their 3rd app: Bob Books Reading Magic Sight Words. It is just as good. If you have a child learning sight words, I highly recommend this one. It goes well with Bob Books book series, but it can also be used by itself.

There are 4 levels of games. All follow the same story and thus use the same words.

Level one is to drag the letters to spell a word. Kids are shown a page of the story. The picture on the page has no colors, with just one simple sentence, like “Bob can jump”. Kids can tap on the word to hear the word be read aloud again. Among the words, there is one that is highlighted, and this is the word kids will learn to spell. Once kids touch the highlighted word, there will be letter stickers shown on the screen. Kids need drag each letter to match the corresponding letter in the word. Once kids get all the letters in the word, they will see the picture being filled with color, and there will be a light animation to show the action of the story on the page. For example, for “Bob can jump”, they will see Bob jump over a tree stump.

Level two requires kids to trace each letter in the word.

Level 3 is to ask kids to find the letter for the word by spinning the letter dials. Kids must pick the correct letter among several choices for each letter in the word with no hints.

The last level is to ask kids to find the whole word. When kids open a new page and tap on the highlighted word, they will see several different words shown up on the screen. Kids have to pick the correct word to put in the expected position in the sentence. Once they did it correctly, they will see the page turn into colors and move on to the next page.

The app covers 30 the most common Kindergarten sight words. With the app, kids will learn to make connection between letter shapes, words and sounds. They will be able to read and sound out simple words, and spell the words they’ve read. – plus animated rewards for each new word to engage children just starting to read.

Bob Books Sight Word is a great app helping kids learn sight work. By slowly introducing new words in context, using consistency, repetition and stories that fit short attention spans, your child will enjoy the learning and quickly remember the words.
