I find another great free app at Educational Apps for Kids community on Google Plus. It is a math game called Panasonic Prime Smash, from Panasonic Corporation. It is a great game for kids to reinforce the concept of prime numbers and learn to recognize them.
One the open screen, there are four options: How to Play, New Game, Collection, and Fun Facts.
I highly recommend visiting How to Play first. Read through the instruction, then you are free to go to New Game, or Fun Facts.
New Game leads to game play. There are three levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard. Once the game starts, kids will see balls with numbers on it. If it is a prime number, they must tap on it to capture it, if it is not a prime number, they have to slice on it to separate it into two divisors. They have to keep slicing on numbers till all numbers are prime numbers. The more prime numbers kids can capture, the higher the score. Kids can choose the level they want to play. At Hard level, the balls come much faster than those at Easy level.
I enjoyed reading Fun Facts. I learned a lot about prime numbers I did not know before. Do you know what is Emirp? Emirp is a prime number that results in another prime number when its digits are reversed. Did you notice Emirp is the word Prime spelled backwards? How about Twin Primes? I can give you a hint – 3 and 5, 11 and 13, 857 and 859 are twin primes.
Collection is like a trophy board. Kids can see how many prime numbers they have captured. They can also filter the collection to see certain type of prime numbers, such as Twin Prime and Emirp. I suggest visit collection section often, as while playing the game, the focus is on acting quickly, and here is a place to review the numbers at your own pace.
Overall Prime Smash is a well-made math app to learn about prime numbers. We all enjoyed it a lot.
