Free App: Disney Princess Palace Pets

Disney Princess Palace Pets

The app begins at the Disney Princess Pet Salon where kids meet and pamper six pets from various past Disney Princesses. There are dogs and cats of course but we also have a horse and a bunny. They all have clever names with subtle nods to their respective princesses, my favorite being Cinderella’s dog Pumpkin. When kids pick the pet they want to pamper they click on them and get a short and sweet narrative highlighting when the pet and the princess met and why each is so special to their princess. Each story is surprisingly engaging and meaningful given its brevity and immediately makes kids care about these new characters in the princesses’ lives.Disney Princess Palace Pets

Now comes the fun part.  The bathing and the brushing are the most fun you could make bathing and brushing be.  Kids can bathe their pets with small bubbles from the soap or my preference the big fun bubbles from the shampoo.  The same goes for the rinsing.  Kids can spritz those bubbles away nice and neat or go my route with the full on water rinse.  The blow out follows the same pattern, soft breeze or wind tunnel force (which for a moment will produce a frizzy pet).

Next comes the brush and trim.  I am 36 years old and still got giddy that my finger “brush” could brush their hair in any direction, making the pets look completely silly in the process.  Trimming makes a nice sound and you see hair fall but no worries, your pet stays the same.  Then kids feed their pet a snack.  The final step in the pampering process is adding the accessories.  Kids can pick piece by piece on their own and add them to the pet or click the wand and get different accessories put on the pet for them.

Lastly, each newly groomed pet gets to take a portrait with their princess and put in gallery where kids can then take a picture of it.

NerdyBaker Comments:

While the backstories of these pets and how they met their princesses is enlightening and engaging, what kid (or their parent) wouldn’t like to be able to play in this same capacity with some of the pets we already know?  I did however really appreciate that kids could either take the primping seriously or silly, a great approach.

Disney Princess Palace Pets is free on the App Store and is available for iPod, iPhone, and iPad.  There are two in-app purchases available currently each for $1.99, Princess Tiana’s puppy Lily and Rapunzel’s pooch Summer.
