I have always liked Kidaptive Leo’s Pad series. I like how the kids are addressed as holistic persons and how the app is designed to help kids to develop multi-dimensional skills, such as social emotional skills besides knowledge. Now Kidaptive took the part I like the most of the series and expanded it into a separate app Learner Mosaic. It is like a personalized parenting advice handbook. Like Leo’s Pad, it is a free app, but the content it carries is so valuable and you can’t find anywhere else.
Learner Mosaic gives you the insight of your child’s strengths, struggles, and passions across 6 skill categories and 75 skill areas. By asking well designed questions, the app tells you where your child stands on all these skill dimensions, and most importantly, gives you activity ideas that you can do with the child to further strengthen the strong areas and improve the weak areas.
To have a feel of how comprehensive the app is, let’s look at the 6 skill categories in the system: Knowledge, Social Emotional Skills, Thinking Skills, Character Skills, Physical Skills, Creative Skills. In each category, there are multiple skill areas.
I love it when the app helps to decipher my child’s behavior and tells me what the behaviors mean and what I can do to help the child. For example, by asking the question how my child holding the pencil, and based on my answer, the app tells me that my child is just starting to practice pencil grip and what I can do to help her; by asking how the child play at the playground while other kids are around, the app tells that my child is learning the play entry skills, which are interest in and strategies used for initiating or joining play with other children.
The more questions you answer, you more information you have about your child, and the more recommendations the app can provide.
Learner Mosaic is a personalized parenting handbook in your pocket. It is great that all advices are tailored to your child. It is a must have if you have a preschooler at home.
