Sushi Monster is a FREE math app for elementary school kids. It is fun and challenging at the same time. We share our review and answer questions, like why it is unique and how to use it to help kids with their math skills. If you are looking for some fun math games to keep your school aged kids engaged in math, you can’t go wrong with this one, and it is free.
With this app, kids practice addition and multiplication by feeding the monster sushi with numbered plates, and the sum or the product of the numbers must be the same as the monster requested number. If the numbers are correct, kids earn points, stars and trophies. If the numbers are not correct, the monster won’t be happy! There is a possibility that no numbers left on the plates can match the required number, so kids may have to use some strategies to get all stars for each round.
I like the app because it is a reversed math – instead of answering how much is 12 + 17, kids are asked to find 1 – 3 numbers that add up to a number, say 300. If the monster is holding up the 300 number, kids have to find 2 or even 3 plates with numbers that will sum up as 300. They have to do these quickly. Although the math problems only have addition and multiplication, the thinking process of this game actually can involve both subtraction and division. This is a great game to help kids gain a better sense about numbers.
There are 7 levels in Addition, and 5 levels in multiplication. Kids can move to a new level after they finish a level. The difficulties of the problems progress with the level too.
