Free App: Random Acts of Kindness

Free App: Random Acts of Kindness post image

With kids starting school, many of us are busy getting kids ready for the new school year: school supplies, academic readiness, … One very important aspect of school life is the peer interactions. This involves social and emotional skills. We have shared our top picks of 10 apps helping kids develop social and emotional skills and today I want to share another app Random Acts of Kindness.

Why Random Acts of Kindness? Because I believe it is the core of many social and emotional skills. Once you have a kind heart and willing and ready to understand and help others, many of the social skills are just the natural outcome. Random Act of Kindness App

We do teach kids be kind, but the best way to teach is to do kind things ourselves and do them together with kids. Kids follow examples, and through the real actions they learn to find opportunities to help others and to experience the happiness from the actions.

Random Acts of Kindness is a very simple app. You download the free app, set up an account, and each time you tap on the Be Kind button, you will receive a suggestion of action of kindness, such as “hug your kids”, “take care of a sick friend”, “hold the elevator”, “share a good book with a friend”.

As you can see, some of the suggestions are situational, but most of them are simple actions that everyone can do, including kids.

Through out the summer, I also checked some Netflix movies and TV shows. there are quite a few shows for kids that encourage kindness and understanding. Here are some of them:

For younger kids:
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Friends Help Each Other
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Arthur: Muffy’s Classic Classy Club

For older kids:
Rudy
A Mile in His Shoes
Glee

What will you do today to be kind?

What a simple but great idea for an app. I can’t wait to show it to my daughters. What a great idea for sharing with a classroom and challenging students daily!

    • Thanks Carrie. I like it for how simple it is, and most of the ideas are also simple things you can do.
