Free App: Sago Mini Sound Box

Free App: Sago Mini Sound Box post image

Sago Mini Sound Box is a free app from the developers at Sago Sago. It is an interactive music app for iPhone and iPad that is a great sound game for infants, toddlers, and preschool age children. This app allows for young children to explore music through coordination, exploration, and fine motor development. Music is a great learning tool and helps to develop intellectual and emotional skills.

In this music app, the home screen opens up to a basic cover page that allows your toddler to select anywhere on the screen to enter the game. There is a play button, but as we all know young children’s coordination is just developing, so the ‘touch anywhere’ feature is helpful. Also on this screen you will find a helpful parents section with notes from the designer. There is also an app news button on the home screen to share various similar apps available. Sago Mini Sound Box

Once you enter the game, the next screen gives you nine sound choices. This selection will determine what the music box sounds will be based from. Some of the options include a piano, a farm with animal noises, various dog barks, and other musical instruments. The sound choices rotate through and wiggle as each one plays a sample; this was even entertaining for my toddler as he watched it rotate through numerous times before selecting what sound he wanted.

Once a sound maker is chosen a blank screen with an animal appears with a ball. This is the playing field for the music box. Your child can touch anywhere to add sounds as well as fling balls and tilt the device to make music and move the balls around. Some how one ball becomes two, two turn into 4, and more, …  If touched and held, a ball will crack open to reveal a fun animal. Just give the device a good shake to clear the screen and start with a new empty slate. Multi-touch is also offered allowing for many fingers to create sounds at once, making this a great app for multiple users at the same time. Parents can even have fun creating music alongside their child.

Daisy’s Comments:
Besides being a great interactive game for my 18 month old, I love some of the extra features in this app. Like the ability to go into settings and hide the ‘App News’ button and the Parent button (this is done through your device’s general settings app and selecting the Sound Box app). Even though this app doesn’t allow in app purchases and there are swipes needing to be done to enter the parent and app news sections, sometimes it’s nice to have the option to clean up the clutter on the home screen.

I also like that this music app gives some non-traditional ‘instrument’ choices, such as the vehicle honks and dog barks. This app was a huge hit with my toddler and I’m sure yours will enjoy it as well.

Sago Mini Sound Box works on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD.  It is FREE on App Store.
