FREE App: Play Word Game with SparkleFish

SparkleFish

Keep the children entertained and encourage them to use their little grey cells by downloading for free the SparkleFish app.  As claimed by the developer, it is “a hilarious audio story completion game for the iPhone, iPad and Nook Tablet that will have you laughing uncontrollably.” It is like a Mad Libs with voice.

The free version comes with the choice of five stories: A Fairy Tale; Infomercial; The Cold Remedy; The Greeting Card and Yearbook signing. In-app purchases provide users with the opportunity to increase the story options. However, I would say that the free version provides plenty of fun for children.

The idea is that kids get to create their own stories under the general headings by including their voice recording of words and phrases. Suggestions for each word are included in each section of the story, so children shouldn’t be left struggling to come up with words on their own. It’s a great way to enjoy learning and very easy to do. If being used in a noisy environment, children will need to speak clearly and loudly, but other than that it’s a straightforward app to use. Whilst playing kids will benefit from re-inforcing their understanding of sentence structure as well as familiarise themselves with adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs for example.SparkleFish Free App

Users can speak in their own voice or have even more fun by inventing silly voices to spice up the stories, plus the creative juices will be flowing when they compete with each other to come up with the craziest words they can think of to include in the story!

This app would be great for those children who find it difficult getting the words in their head down on to paper. Useful for encouraging speech and language development generally, it guides users through the story making process in a fun, interesting and engaging way.

Great for use within the school classroom, with children who have special educational needs and individually at home. I can see it working equally well with more able kids as they develop and hone their skills as much as those with SEN however. Its real bonus is in the app’s ability to encourage children to have fun whilst learning in a straight forward way.

SparkleFish is avaiable for iPhone, iPAD and Nook.  It is FREE to download on App Store, with In-App Purchase options for more stories.  It is also available for Nook for $0.99 with 15 stories.
