Are you looking for engaging online games for kids? Games are not all bad. Good games will help kids focus and train their problem solving skills. Poptropica is one of the good games I don’t mind my child playing. Kids will improve their literacy and problem solving skills while playing the open ended games.
Poptropica is originally an online game, and now it is available as an app on App Store. Both online game and app are free.
Poptropica is a virtual world where kids explore and play in complete safety. Kids create a “Poptropican” character to travel the many Islands of Poptropica. Each island offers unique experience in discoveries and mystery solving challenges. During the exploration, kids read digital books and comics, watch movies, and solve problems. Kids not only hone their problem solving skills, but also literacy skills.
There are near 40 islands on the website, and 5 islands in the app, with more to come. On the “Time Tangled Island,” kids will find that a malfunctioning time machine has messed up history, and that by powering up the island’s Future Machine, they can help the Island’s inhabitants get history back on track. “24 Carrot Island” challenges kids to investigate why the virtual world’s people and carrots are disappearing, and bring the Island back to its former splendor.
On each island, kids have to explore the island on their own with little instructions. They must try to collect as much information as they can and piece them together to solve the problems. They need talk to everyone they meet, visit places not many other people visit, and going back and forth to get all the information and tools they need. What is even more fun is sometimes kids have to have enough information to find out what the problem is.
Both online game and app are free. There is a membership that gives you some extra benefits like preview of new islands. However, membership is not needed to play the games.
