Free Language Learning Programs and Apps

Duolingo Free App

I always wanted to check out Duolingo. I have read about their free language learning programs and apps, but I have not got a chance to actually use it till recently. After I used it for a while, I really like it, not just because it is free, but also how good it is at helping you learn. If you are considering picking up a new language, I highly recommend Duolingo. At least you should give it a try. Free language programs online and mobile devices

Currently, there are 5 languages available for English speakers: Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. There are also language courses designed for non-English speakers. For Chinese speaker, there are 14 languages available, including English, Japanese, German; For Japanese speakers, there are about 10 languages available.

When you first start, you want to pick your native language, then pick the language course designed for you. If you are an English speaker, you pick the tap “For English Speaker” at the top, you will then see the language courses available for you: Spanish, French, …. You now pick the language you want to learn, say French.

Once you picked the language you want to learn, you will start the lessons. You can start from the very beginning, or do a placement test. The program will start you at an appropriate level based on your test result.

I like the course design. The content is very practical. It puts more emphasis on the words and sentences that people tend to use regularly, so you feel you have the basics covered if you are travelling to a country where people speak the language you are studying.

Both the learning and practice put equal emphasis on reading, speaking, and writing. Another good aspect is you are not just learning vocabulary, you are also learning how to use the words, putting them into sentences.

Any time you can access the program, and you can choose to learn (taking the lessons) or to practice. You have to pass your current level to unlock the next level.

The program is designed to have the users control their study pace. You can study whenever you can, or you can set a goal for yourself.

Duolingo is a great language learning program for anyone who wants to try a 2nd language. It is available online that you can access from your computer. It is also available as apps on iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Androids. It is FREE on all platforms.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
