Fun Geography Game – Stack the States

Stack the States

Pretty soon, kids will start spring break. Some families will travel. I did some search on apps teach geography. I found Stack the States.

With this app, kids will learn about capitals, state shapes, and map locations with animated states that stack, drop, tumble, and slide around like puzzle pieces.

In the game, the player is asked a question (identification, capital, national landmarks, etc.) and if they choose the correct answer from four multiple-choice options they can use that state for their stack. The goal is to stack enough states to reach the checkered finish line, but with all the irregular shaped state puzzles, the stacking can easily go wrong and the stacked states go tumbling.

If the player reaches the finish line with 60 percent or more correct answers, he earns one of the 50 states to add to his map. As more states are added, three bonus games, Pile Up!, Puzzler and Capital Drop, are unlocked.Stack the States App

What the kids learn:

  • Capitals
  • State shapes
  • Abbreviations
  • Bordering states
  • Location on the map
  • Nicknames
    …and more!

  • Create up to six player profiles
  • Collect all 50 states and track your progress on a personalized map
  • Earn FREE bonus games: Pile Up, Puzzler, and Capital Drop
  • High resolution pictures of famous US landmarks
  • All games are powered by a realistic physics engine
  • Fun sound effects and music
  • Works on both iPhone and iPad – a universal app

iGameMom Comment:

Learning with fun. It is even hard for me to put it down. Well worth the $0.99 cost.  They also offer a Lite version, which is free.

If you would like to check it out or download the app, please use the links provided. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom receives a small percentage. I hope, with your support, I can test more apps and share back with everyone.

Where do you igamemom live? My child wants to get it for free but it says that it is not available for US stores. I would buy it but it says that it is $2.99, instead of $0.99. I think that I can find a way to change where I live for a while so i can get it for free. Sorry it sounds weird to ask where you live. But I want my cild to get a head start on geography.

Sorry on the last sentence I wrote cild instead of child, just so you know.

    • Looks like the developer decided to increase the price after we reviewed it here. Unfortunately we have no control of the price and have no way to know when they decide to change the price.

So, do you know when igamemoms usually reply??? My child is desperate for this game and it is really annoying hearing him asking every 5 seconds. Wow, I feel like I am being so rude.

  • Very cool. We have a United States puzzle we do at least once a week. I think he’d enjoy this 🙂

  • Thanks for the great app ideas. I get most of my apps as recommendations from my nieces and nephews. Now I can pass along some of your ideas to them!

    COOL! Thanks

  • Thanks for this post. I just downloaded it. My kids will enjoy it while we’re on our spring break road trip.

    • You are welcome! I am sure they will like it. My son is still playing, and all his friends liked it when they were over to the house. When they are playing this kind of games, I actually don’t mind they staying on iPAD for an hour. 🙂

  • This is great. Just what my kids need. You have a great site!

  • my children LOVE this game!

    • Now my son cannot put it down. He and his friends would take turns playing on it. They have learned so much in just a couple days.

  • My older son is 9 and is obsessed with geography. I bet he would like this game. I’ll have to check it out and see if there’s an android version available.

    • I could be wrong, but doesn’t seem it has an android version yet.

My friend’s son is obsessed with this game! He amazes adults with his retention rate!

Thanks for visiting my blog and your ‘likes’; much appreciated!

    • It is an addictive game. I am not so much into Geography, but I cannot put it down once I started playing …
