Math Mathews: Mental Math is a math game app helping kids on math facts. It is fast paced and fun, with story built in. Kids who like games will like this app.
The objective of the game is to help Captain Mathews and his crew get to the heart of the Temple of the Earth. Along the way kids have to solve math problems, collect coins and keys. I like the design of the app that kids not only have to solve math problem, they also need read the story – conversations among the characters – for hints on how to get more coins.
There are 8 levels to play, and at each level, there are 4 difficulty levels: easy, medium, hard, expert. Easy only has problems for numbers 1 to 5, Medium level has problems on numbers 1 to 9, Difficult level goes up to number 20, and Expert has problems for numbers 1 through 99.
When the game starts, kids help the crew move forward and jump up and down to collect as many coins and keys as possible. They then solve math addition and subtraction problems by selecting the right answer among 5 choices. After each session, they will see a report on their math performance.
A very nice feature is the Hints and Tips. Here kids can learn some tricks on how to do mental math quickly. Make sure have your child read the tips before they play the game.
The app has the ability to track up to 10 players performance. With 4 difficulty levels, it is a fun game app for all the kids in the family. Maybe you can have a competition among the kids.
There is a little icon of another app from the same developer, but it is not linked to App Store, so it is a very safe app for kids to play on their own.
Math Mathews: Mental Math is available for iPhone, iPod and iPAD. It is also available for Android. It is $0.99 on both App Store and Google Play.
