PlayTales Gold – A Subscription based ebook system

PlayTales Gold

If you go to App store, you will find out that the number of book apps for babies and toddlers are growing tremendously.   It is overwhelming to look through the list, if there is a list.  It is hard to decide which one to get, which one will worth the money…   I had always hoped to have a place where I can just “borrow” the app for two days, and then decide if I want to buy it or not.  Now, I find a place you can do something almost like “borrowing”.  PlayTales is now offering a program called “PlayTales Gold”.  With a $3.99 subscription, you can have access to hundreds of children’s books on iPAD for a whole month, with new titles every week.PlayTales App

PlayTales offers interactive books for kids 8 and younger.  It contains a whole library of books in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese and Japanese. I checked a couple books they have.  All books have 3 reading options: ‘Read by Myself’, ‘Read to Me’, and ‘Auto play’.  Some books have individual word highlights when reading the book, some don’t.  All books have music and simple animations.

Frankly speaking, I am more excited about the concept of “monthly renting” than the books themselves.  Kids out-grow those baby books quickly.  It is great for the parents to be able to get new books regularly, but do not have to pay for each single book.  With $3.99, if you find 2 books you like in the month, it is worth it.

Initial download of the app is free.  There are sample books come with the free download. Subscription can be purchased via In-App purchase.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store button provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The button works for all countries.

My child reads 2-3 hours a week, depends on the books.

    • My son is the same. If it is a book he is really interested in, he will be sitting there reading like a stone.

  • theses app things are still foreign to me, my son just got an ipod…is this what we’re talking about?
I have a 13, 11, 10, 7 and 4.5 year old and they all love reading…is this something I should be looking into?

    • Hi Cheri,
I totally understand. I did not get into this app thing long after we got our iPAD… But once I got into this, I realized there are so many good apps, they are really really good!
If you have a iPod, this app will work. Typically you have to pay for each book (count as one app). The neat thing about this app is, it lets you pay $3.99 (typical price for 1-2 book apps) to have access to hundreds books for a month!
If this app thing is new to you, this is the app for you – low cost, great access of hundreds apps to test them out. Now if you enter the Rafflecopter, you have a chance to win a month free accesss. This is an ideal opportunity for a new app user to try it out.
I have to say, the books in this app are for young kids, your 11 and 13 year olds won’t enjoy it, but your 4 and 7 year-olds will like it.
      Hope this helps.

  • Jennifer

Hi, first, I’m glad you popped by my blog so I got to meet you–great info here!

My kids spend a min of 2 hours a week reading, but usually much much more. In summer the reading slows down, we’re outside. But come fall we begin to hibernate and curl up with books much more often. I have 2 children under 8, really like this borrowing app

    • Thanks for the note Jennifer. It is great your children like reading. You should try enter the Rafflecopter and see if you can win the month free pass! Since you have already left a comment, all you have to do is to enter Rafflecopter. The drawing will be automatic – run by the program in Rafflecopter, if you did not enter your name there, you won’t have a chance to win. Hope you will enter and win – there are 8 of them, and it is very likely you are one of them!

      • Jennifer

How did I enter the rafflecopter? Shows that I have zero entires….sorry thus system is new for me & not apparent….

  • BC

my son is in 4th grade. He is required to read 2.5 hours per week as reading asignment. But he usually reads more than that.

    • Guess all school has certain reading assignment, my son’s school also has weekly reading assignments. I think this is good.

  • My kids spend at least 2 hours a week reading, many times it’s more than that. Great contest!

    • I feel the reading habit comes from childhood. It is great your kids read regularly. Mine likes reading too, but it has to be in his interest area. I am trying to get him branch out a little bit … 🙂

  • any comments entered here on FB will also count as entries to win the one month pass
