Interactive Storybook – The Sweet Adventure by CosmoCamp

The Sweet Adventure Interactive Story Book App

The Sweet Adventure from CosmoCamp is an interactive story book app about a fun hippo who loves cooking. This app is the second in a series of storybooks. Check out a recent review of the first story in this series of books Free Early Reader Storybook App Incredi-Ride. Storybooks are a great tool for literacy development. Bringing books to life through technology is a great way to expand on literacy skills while also covering so many other areas such as fine motor development and creative thinking.

The main characters in this series are Migo and Pandy; in The Sweet Adventure story book they are introduced to a hippo named Lucy and they help her through the adventure of baking a cupcake. Throughout this story book there are vibrant colors, attractive animations, and ways to engage with the story through cleaning up the baking mess and decorating the cupcake. The app has two reading levels making it geared toward a wider audience. The first reading level is geared toward toddlers (2 and 3 year olds) and offers shorter stories for shorter attention spans and picture words which is a great way to introduce new words to toddlers.

The second level is a little more advanced and geared toward the preschool population (4 and 5 year olds), offering the full story which introduces new vocabulary, an option to record your own voice for every character, and a read-along option. You are able to choose the level that suits your child best on the opening screen or through the ‘Parent Zone’ at any time.

There are three options for reading the story: 1) Read Together, which encourages parent-child interaction; 2) Read to Me, which has a pre-recorded voice reading the story; and 3) Read Along, which is like read to me but offers chances for your child to read short sentences and record their own voice. The first two are the only options in toddler mode where as all three can be found in preschool mode.

There is a parent zone that can only be accessed through solving a math problem. In the parent zone you have the options to change reading level, turn sound and/or music on or off as well as change language (this story book offers English and French). You can also reset voice overs, rate the app, view credits, and read more about the app. There is a great section on how you as a parent can provide the best parent-child book reading experience, I highly recommend reading through this great information when you have time.
