Oceanhouse Media just released another Dr. Seuss book a few days ago – Horton Hatches the Egg. They are giving a promotion right now.
The story:
Kind-hearted Horton the elephant is persuaded to sit on an egg while its mother, the good-for-nothing bird lazy Maysie flutters off on a vacation. Horton is teased and taunted by his jungle friends, “How Absurd! Old Horton the Elephant thinks he’s a bird!” He’s captured by hunters, even placed in a traveling circus, but he keeps his promise and protects the egg. When runaway Maysie stumbles upon the traveling circus and demands her egg back, something incredible and unexpected occurs, teaching children that virtue earns a reward!
“I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. . . An elephant’s faithful, one hundred per cent!”
App Features:
It has all the features Oceanhouse Media book apps have. This is the reason you want to have an app from a reputable developer – you know the quality you can expect.
Each single word is highlighted as the narrator reads the story, helping children connect the written with the spoken word. If you tap a word, that word will be read again. If you tap any place in the text and hold for a while, the whole page will be repeated.
Three ways to use the app:
- ”Read to Me” – listen to the narrated story with words highlighted as they are read
- ”Read it Myself” – read the book in its traditional form
- ”Auto Play” – plays like a movie, automatically reading and turning pages. Great for younger children!
Additional Features:
- Picture/Word association – words zoom up and are spoken when pictures are touched
- Individual words highlight and are read aloud when tapped
- Professional audio narration
- Custom background audio for each scene
- Pages pan & zoom to accentuate the beautiful, original art of Dr. Seuss
What the Kids Learn:
In addition to spelling and reading, they also learn from the faithful elephant to keep promise, to be responsible and trustworthy.
iGameMom Comment:
The paper book is at $9.00 on Amazon. Now the introduction price at App store is only $2.99. The app for Android at Amazon is $1.99. With so many nice features, it is definitely a good value.
If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
Check it out at Amazon (for Android): Horton hatches the Egg on Amazon
What a thorough review! Interested in this for my little one now!
Thanks for the like on my blog! –abby
Thanks for visiting and glad you find the review helpful. Hope you (and Eva) will like the book!
We did check it out and Eva loves it! I never thought I’d find something to replace Hello Kitty…what a relief. Thanks again!
Great! Thanks for letting me know. Now I felt all the time I spent on the search is worthwhile. 🙂
This looks fantastic, until this moment I hadn’t even thought to check Amazon for Android (gasp!). Off to spend some money now.
Thanks for liking my post, I’m so glad you did because now I’ve found your blog 🙂
Glad to hear you like it here. I should put a note in the post, I did not test the Android version. Hope it is as good as the ones on iOS.
Hi again – I’m sad to say that it’s no available in Australia yet, which is where I am. Hopefully soon 🙂
For Android? I am pretty sure it is available there for iPhone and iPAD.
Unfortunately not, the Amazon Appstore for Android page says it’s not available for international customers at the moment. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200551840&ref=sv_mas_7
Maybe one day.
and soon! 🙂
Hi there iGame Mom, can I ask a question: is it allowed to put the pictures of the game online? Did you have to pay royalties?
I am very happy to read your posts, because there is so much to learn from technology. I am also not a Mom who would stop my child from playing games. I believe in using the modern tools. Keep writing and I’ll keep reading. Happy Easter!
I have developers thanked me after they found my review. The picture actually is necessary, because there are different apps with the same names, the picture can help the reader find the right app. Of course, the easiest way is to use the link offered here.
As long as it is educational, I treat these games the same as board games. Many times, we play together.
Happy Easter! I’ll try and get this for the kids for Monday !
