Leo’s Pad: Preschool Kids Learning Series

Leo’s Pad – Preschool Learning Series

Leo’s Pad Appisode 3 launched a while ago, and now all three appisodes are put into one app called Leo’s Pad: Preschool Kids Learning Series.  We reviewed Leo’s Pad Appisode 1  and Leo’s Pad Appisode 2, and like them very much.

Like previous appisodes, Appisode 3 also has great learning activities built in the storyline. It starts with a painting activity, where kids have to share a brush with others and waiting for their turns; then Leo and Cinder have to go to Marie’s Question Lab to see her invention flying belts, where Leo has to overcome his fear to learn to fly with the belt; … Skills kids will gain while playing in this appisode: social cue reading, collaboration, fine motor, spatial memory, working through challenges, … just to name a few.

Now with all Appisodes in one app, it is easier to track kids performance on activities within the series. Parents Leo's Pad preschool kids learning series appcan go to Parent’s Pad by tapping on the button at the bottom which says Open Parent’s Pad.  You have to enter a numerical number as requested in written English to enter Parent’s Pad.  In it, parents can find the whole curriculum behind the learning activities designed through the appisodes.

It is amazing to see that there are 7 categories of skills that kids need to be successful in learning: Figure Stuff Out, Gather Necessary Knowledge, Interact with Others, Love Learning, Be Creative, Control Yourself, Acquire Physical Routines.  Within each category, there are some sub-categories to further define the skills.  For example, under “Love Learning”, you will see Practice, Perseverance, and Approach to Learning; furthermore, under “Approach to Learning”, there are Growth Mindset, Intrinsic Motivation, Interest Cultivation, and Enthusiasm for Learning. There are explanations of each skill, and each of these skills are tracked and monitored from kids’ interaction with the app.

I found this information is very helpful for parents.  Even just browsing through all the categories helps me to find areas I can work with my child, not to mention having individualized data on all these skills based on your child’s playing activities within the app.

iGameMom Comments:

Leo’s Pad is one of the best app series for preschoolers I have seen.  It blends academic skills and social skills into the story play.  Parent’s Pad is a valuable parenting tool providing insights about your child’s development.

I highly recommend taking some time reading through the Parent’s Pad even before you hand the app to your child.  It will give you an overall idea what you child need to be successful in the future, as well as the skills each appisode covers.   Whenever possible, you may also want to stay behind your child while he/she is playing – not to intervene, just to observe the play.  This will for sure give you insightful connections between your child’s behavior and the data collected in Parent’s Pad.

Leo’s Pad: Preschool Kids Learning Series is available for iPAD.  It is FREE to download, with 1st Appisode come with it for FREE.  Any additional appisode is $4.99.  They are having sale right now, for Appisode 2 and 3, each is $2.99 right now.
