Let’s Get Cooking! — Fun Cooking Apps for Kids

Kid ECook

Do your kids like to play in the kitchen? Do they like to play with the food? Having kids involved in cooking could be a good way teaching them about healthy food choices. Today we have two fun cooking apps for kids. Both are fun with recipes that kids can make themselves.
Cooking Apps for Kids
The first is Kid ECook and is available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and teaches children how to get to know their way around the kitchen. A free version allows users to try one recipe before choosing whether to buy the full version or not.

The app promises recipes that are easy to make and create no mess! Truly an impressive feat indeed. Offering recipes for such children’s favorites as pancakes, fruit salad, chocolate cake and even strawberry jam, it promises to inspire children to get creative in the kitchen.

The app allows children to create their own culinary masterpieces by offering a virtual cooking experience. Once children have chosen a recipe they like, they will see a list of ingredients and the app then takes them through the cooking process for a virtual bake over. If children are really inspired, they can give the real thing a go and take photo’s to share on the app’s Facebook page.

App number two is called My Little Cook. It too offers children the opportunities to make their own food by following recipes for things like carrot cake, cocoa pudding, kiwi lollipops and witch’s fingers. The recipe’s have been created by a nutritionist and are healthy and fun.

Children have to navigate around a cardboard animated house to find the ingredients, mix them and create their masterpiece. The process of cooking is deeply integrated in this app to the idea of building a good relationship with food and taking time to think about how we make our food and what makes it interesting and appealing.

I would say that if you’re after a fun app for a food loving younger user then the Kid ECook app is more for you as it inspires an interest in food through play. Hopefully encouraging children to create their own recipes for real with parental help. In the meantime however it’s a great way of encouraging creativity with food without the mess!

For slightly older children, My Little Cook may well swing it. It’s a very carefully crafted app that covers every aspect of cooking and is really quite realistic. For the more seriously interested budding chefs out there, this gives you the whole package covering food from field or garden to plate.

Both apps work on iPhone, iPod and iPAD. Kid ECook is $2.99 and My Little Cook is $3.99 on App Store

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
