Do you like iSpy type of game? I did not like it much till I found a couple very nice iSpy type apps like Little Things Forever, something beautiful and fun. If you have played Little Things Forever, you may agree it is designed for older kids and adults, preschool kids might find it too difficult. I am happy to introduce today’s app, which is also a beautifully illustrated iSpy app, and it is particularly designed for young children age 2 to 8 – the great gem search.
The goal of the game is to find 4 gems in each picture. They are all hidden very well, but kids can still find them if they search hard. Each picture is beautifully illustrated, with bright colors. If you like, you can have the music on, which is also fun to listen. There are some fun animations upon touch, which make the explore-and-search experience fun and interesting.
There are a total of 12 pictures in the app. The default setting is kids can’t move to the next picture till they find all 4 gems in the current picture. You can change the setting to allow skip pictures. You can also change the setting to have music and sounds off.
Overall it is a simple yet beautifully made iSpy app for young children. The play will reinforce color concept, train fine motor skills and shape recognition. It is also a great training in recognizing partial shapes and inference, as many times, only a small part of the gem is shown and the rest is hidden behind other objects.
My only wish is there are more pictures to play with. It also might be helpful to have a hint function so kids are not stuck on one picture.
Great Gem Search is available for iPAD. It is $1.99 on App Store.
