We just posted the news about Quick Math+ going free today. I checked the app, and felt it is very good and worth a full review as well. If you have not downloaded the app, I highly recommend it. It brings math practice to a new level. It is free today, but even if you missed the opportunity, I would still recommend buying it, not only for your elementary school kids, but also for yourself. It is so fun to play with. I had a good time using it.
Quick Math+ is built upon the app Quick Math. What I like about the app: its fast pace and kids hand writing answers to the problems.
There are 4 types of games in the app: Solve, Memorize, Compare, and Swap. Each game has 4 levels that fit different levels of math skills.
The fast pace:
I like the set up that kids are not competing with anyone else. They are competing with themselves. All practices are timed, and at the end of each game, kids will see the time it took and a chart showing their past performance. They can see if their speed has improved or not.
Hand writing answers:
For each math question, kids have to write on the screen their answer, so they have to write the number good enough for the app to recognize it.
4 types of math games:
• Solve: Order of operations questions along with the inclusion of indices and negative numbers.
• Memorize: Twice the challenge as players remember hidden numbers from one question to the next.
• Compare: Develop important estimation skills as players race to determine greater than, less than or equal to.
• Swap: Provides a memory and order of operations challenge as one number or symbol changes from one question to the next.
The transition of questions is very smooth and fast. If kids answer one question right, the next one shows up right away. If one gets the answer wrong, or fails to write clearly, a red x appears and the child has to try again.
The app is great for kids who has passed memorizing basic math facts and need some practice on speed and mixed operations. It is also a great game for anyone who likes to have some mental challenges to stay sharp.
Quick Math+ is available for iPhone, iPod and iPad. It is FREE today.
