The beginning level is very easy, a preschooler should be able to do it. Kids see a plane carries a math problem, with two choices for answers. Kids need pick the answer before the plane fly off the screen. If they answer it correctly, they earn points; if they don’t answer it correctly, they don’t earn any points. In each game, there are 4-5 rounds. If kids answer all questions right, they get a gold balloon.

If kids give enough correct answers, they can move to the next level. Each level is a little harder than the previous level. From level 1 to Level 2, kids solve problems within 10 instead of problems with numbers 0 to 5; at Level 3, kids see numbers within 20, and they will see 2 problems at the same time; … As the levels progress, the numbers get bigger, the speed becomes faster.

If kids can’t provide enough correct answers to the problems, they cannot progress to the next level.

iGameMom Comments:

It is a fun idea for kids to practice math, especially for kids who like airplanes. The earlier levels are good practice for young children, as they are simple problems, with relatively slow speed for kids to react. The level progression is a little faster than I expected, it might be a good idea if parents can help young children to stay in lower levels to prevent potential frustration.

I wish there is a way to choose the levels, so kids who have passed the lower levels don’t have to repeat the simple problems again.

Fly by Numbers is available on iPhone, iPod and iPad. It is $1.99 on App Store.
