Cowbears are a family of bears who love to sing and tell stories. Their ‘I Love Mud’ HD app produced by Bacciz Books and Brooklyn Rose Press is an interactive story telling and singing app that allows children to read along with the story.
It’s a great app for helping children between the ages of 2-5 with their reading skills as well as offering opportunities to develop their hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills.
It’s a fun app that tells the story of two young bears who just love the mud! If you have young children who enjoy splashing about in muddy puddles, then this will strike a chord with them and you!
As you read through the story and follow the songs, each sentence is highlighted so that children can follow the text. There are opportunities to get involved by listening to the instructions and looking for and touching objects on the screen to make them move.
It’s easy to engage with and can be used whilst sitting with younger children or easily be left with older children in the target range as the instructions are clear and simple to follow. There’s also an opportunity to play a lullaby song and story, so it could be a nice way to quiet down before bedtime or nap time.
What I enjoyed about it were the fun loving lyrics to the song as they celebrate being children and enjoying simple pleasures like playing around in mud. My 2 year old was transfixed by both the story and the song and enjoyed the interactivity part where he could touch objects and make them move.
The only thing I would mention is that as a parent I would have liked a little more control over when to start the story (which starts immediately the app is opened) and accessing the lullaby song (which you have to wait for until the main story and song have finished.) Other than that though, it is a nice interactive app for promoting literacy.
Cowbears I Love Mud is available for iPhone, iPod, and iPAD. It is $2.99 on App Store.
If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.

The sing along adds even more fun.
This sounds like a great app that won’t be too annoying for me to hear repetitively. 🙂
