Sid’s Science Fair and Science Activity Ideas from Mom’s Library

Sid’s Science Fair

Today we introduce a science app and some science activity ideas for kids. Since I started hosting Mom’s Library, I have been always amazed at how many creative kids activity ideas people have.  Can you imagine 30+ playful ways to teach young kids about rocks What a wonderful idea using crayon to show kids rock formation!  Make sure scroll down to Mom’s Library to read some more cool ideas I found from last week’s collection.
Sid Science Fair App from PBS Kids
Today’s app is a science app for young kids. Does your child like Sid the Science Kid on PBS Kids?  Has he/she tried the app based on the show? Sid’s Science Fair is a science app for kids age 3 to 6. In the app, kids learn science concepts at three stations of the school science fair:

Collection Inspection: Kids are given a partial picture of an object, and they have to identify which object and which part of the object matches the give picture.

Chart It: Kids classify and sort objects by attributes such as color, type, pattern. By placing items on a chart, kids also learn about data presentation.

Time Machine: Kids choose one object from several selection choices, then they are presented with 5 pictures of the same object with different looks, such as different stages of a melting snowman or a growing flower. Kids must put the five pictures in chronological order, and then they get to see nine pictures of the same object in action.

I like the app teaching science while playing games. The science concepts and skills covered in the app includes: classifying objects by certain attributes (color, size and more); recognizing patterns; presenting data; sequencing; and counting. In addition to basic science concepts, kids also learn science-related vocabulary words.

Sids Science Fair works on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD. It is $2.99 on App Store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.

As I mentioned earlier, I found amazing collections of creative ideas in learning with fun.

The first thing caught my eye was “R is for Rocks – playful ways to teach young kids about rocks” from Fantastic Fun and Learning. It has more than 30 activity ideas of teaching young kids about rocks.

Through that, I found the article shared at Momma Owl’s Lab using crayon teaching rock format, which is very creative and easy to do at home.

The Magic leprechaun rocks shared on Gift of Curiosity is another creative idea.  It is a new twist of the “baking soda and vinegar” experiment, but with a seasonal theme.

Buggy and Buddy shared an experiment about color which ended with beautiful butterfly crafts.
