There’s a Wocket in my Pocket

There is a Wocket in My Pocket – Dr.Seuss

One of my all-time favorite authors is Dr. Seuss. You can’t get more legendary and classic than a Seuss book, and with the celebration of his recent birthday the Dr. Seuss apps are everywhere.  This app/book is one of my favorites: There’s a Wocket in my Pocket! by Dr. Seuss from Oceanhouse Media. It is a goofy story of rhymes and the various creatures found in the main character’s house.

This book app offers three options for reading: read to me, read it myself, and auto play (reads to you and turns the pages). In addition to the reading options, there is a feature that let’s you record your own voice reading the story. I found this especially fun for my younger son. He loves books and was even more intrigued by the story when he heard my voice coming from the iPad.

Finding the option to record your voice was a little tricky to locate. Once you are in the story, by way of “read to me” or “read it myself”, there is a blue arrow in the bottom left hand screen. Here you can return to the home screen, view the pages in a slide-bar fashion, record your voice or other options. To record your own voice select the Voice option and select New, it will guide you through having you read the story while it records. Your voice will then be saved along with the narrator for you to choose from for future readings. The other options tab allows you to turn off sound effects, turn off the option to tap on pictures or turn off the read alerts.there is a wocket in my pocket drseuss app

This is a great story to read to your children ages 1.5-6 and is also fun for them to read to you (ages 6+). And like most Dr. Seuss books, your child will gain rhyming skills, see some funny characters, and even learn some new, made-up words.

Daisy’s Comments:

I love the new world of virtual books; although nothing can replace paper and pages in your hands. The virtual book world sure does make learning fun by being able to interact with the pages. My favorite features in this app are being able to record your own voice and being able to point to all the objects on each page and having the app label each item.

There’s a Wocket in my Pocket is available for iPhone, iPod and iPAD.  It is $3.99 on App Store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.

I love Dr. Seuss! Nothing will ever be better in my opinion. I have not read a Dr. Seuss on the ipad or kindle so I do not know how it translates, but the feature allowing you to narrate the story is intriguing. What child does not like hearing his own voice? Maybe a few, but what fun to read along with yourself. This will keep kids interested in the book, or any other that may have this feature, for a long time. Keeping children reading is a good thing.

Enjoyed your review. Hi from the Kid Lit Hop 12 (sorry, I am a bit late.)
