Two FREE Apps Teaching Kids about Environment

A Yucky Adventure

The Yuckies is a series of 5 book apps with fun imaginative stories.  The first 2 are out, and both are FREE.  The stories use muck, goop and mischief to teach kids why it is important and how to keep our environment clean.  Developed for 5-8 year olds, the stories have broader appeal for primary school aged children and offer ‘read to me’ and ‘read by myself’ options.

In book one, A Yucky Meeting, the yuckies go around picking up food in garbage, following people around, partying in parks after it is dark, … “Today I’m going out to find some yucky food; I slouch down the footpath, creeping so you can’t see”, “While you’re busy sleeping, we sneak and crawl around; Snaffling any rubbish, that was left on the ground”.  Through this yucky yet funny scenes and readings, kids will get the message that we don’t want the yucky stuff around us.

In book two, A Yucky Adventure, the yucky followed a family to a picnic in the park.  “The family does not know, they have me in their load”.  “I A Yucky Adventure Book Appfind a secret track, to the river, down I plod”. “We yuckies like to swim, in rivers, lakes and creeks. We make them so dirty, the fishes are sad for weeks”.  If the message in book one is not strong and clear, by now the kids would definitely get it – we don’t want yucky stuff in the environment.

I like the concept of the series.  Teaching kids about environment from a unique angle that kids can understand.  The writings and readings are short and funny to keep kids’ attention, the pictures had the fine balance of making the characters yucky, yet funny to watch.  Both apps have some animation, but the focus is clearly on the story, the illustrations and the message.

Both Yucky Apps have separate versions for iPhone/iPod and iPAD.  Both are FREE on App Store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.
