App Review and Giveaway: Sofia the First by Disney

Sofia the First Story Theatre

Sofia the First is a TV movie for preschooler on Disney Channel.  Premiered last fall, it received positive reviews.  Now Disney is making it into a TV series on Disney Junior.  In the meantime, Disney Publishing released the first “Sofia the First” storybook app for iOS devices.

Sofia is a girl who suddenly became a Princess when her mother married the King. She found there are so much to learn … The story helps young children learn how to adapt to a new environment, how to get along with new siblings, and more importantly, how to stay positive throughout difficult times.  It is a princess story with a modern twist.

Kids can read the app by themselves, or have it read to them.  The voices are original voices from the movie and the TV series.

In addition to the story, the app has a Royal Theatre, where kids can select scenes, characters, props, and record their own stories.  All items in the selections are from the story.  Kids can move the characters around on the screen, record dialogs between the characters.  They can also choose background music for their stories.  To some extent, it is like a simpler version of Toontastic.  While Toontastic is really trying to teach kids about storytelling, the Royal Theatre in this app simply lets the kids be creative based on the story in the app.

What kids can learn:Sofia the First Story Theater App
Kids learn social skills, such as making friends, overcoming difficulties, seeking helps.  In the Royal Theatre, kids can be creative and learn to create their own story.

How parents can help:
Parents can read/listen the story together with the kids, ask appropriate questions to help kids learn the life skills.  As to the Royal Theatre, parents can co-create a story with the kids, or simply watch the kids’ creations and encourage kids to create more.

iGameMom Comments:
It is a great story with positive messages.  The Royal Theatre is a wonderful add-on to the story, giving kids the opportunities to use their imagination and create their own stories.  It also provides the parents opportunities to interact with their kids more.

Sofia the First is available for iPhone, iPod, and iPAD.  It is $3.99 on App store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store button provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The button works for all countries.
