A Book App Focusing on Early Learning Skills

CosmoCamp Picnic Problem

We have reviewed a couple CosmoCamp book apps. This is another book app designed for toddlers and preschoolers from CosmoCamp: Picnic Problem. I like the features encouraging kids’ active engagement, as well as different reading options for different age groups to improve early learning skills.

The series is about two friends Migo and Pandy’s adventures through space in their CosmoCamper! In this book, they travel to a rainy little planet to meet new friends. Play hide-and-seek in the puffy flower field, roast marshmallows by the fire, and discover what happens when the rain comes uninvited! book app focusing on learning skills

The app offers two reading modes designed to reinforce the learning experience of toddlers (age 2-3) and preschoolers (age 4-5) through stimulating interactions.

In the toddler mode, the sentences are shorter, and there are only two reading options: Read Together and Read to Me. In the Preschool mode, the sentences are longer and there are more sentences on each page, plus, there is one more option: Read Along.

Read Together:

There is no narration on the page. It is for parents to read with the kids. If you tab on the little question mark on the top right corner of each page, you will see a suggested discussion question based on the content of the page. The questions range from story understanding and comprehension, problem solving to math problems. It is a great way to engage kids in the story and expand the skills they learn beyond reading.

Read to Me:

Kids hear the story read by professional narration. Each word is individually highlighted to enhance word association.

Read Along:

Kids can record their own reading of certain parts of the story. Look for the little microphone symbol to put your own voice into the story!

There are light animations on each page, but not too much. I think this is the best if you intent to use it as book and want kids stay focused on reading the book.

Overall, Picnic Problem is an interesting story with nice features encouraging learning and reading. If you are looking for a book app that focuses on teaching early learning skills, this is a good choice.

CosmoCamp: Picnic Problems is available on iPad. It is $1.99 on App Store. It is also available for Android on Google Play and Amazon App Store.
