Expand Vocabulary with Word A Day Visuals and Audios

Grade 7 Word A Day Visual and Audios

Vocabulary is a big part of language mastery.  How to make the vocabulary building process fun could be a challenge sometime.  I found a new series of apps I think you will like – Word A Day Visuals and Audios.  Currently, they have an app for Grade 6 and Grade 7 each, with more to come.  I only reviewed the app for Grade 7.

Sourcing the words from Sadlier-oxford, the app uses illustrations, voice and short storyline for every word. It is designed to learn one word every day.  If the kids want to learn more, they can have maximum 4 words a day, but no more than 4.  Every day, a new word page becomes available.  On each page, the new word is on the top, followed by a picture, the definition, and a short story with the new word in the storyline.  Kids can read the story by themselves, or they can tap the sound button to have everything read to them.  I found it much easier to remember a new word in a story than simply memorize a word by itself.  The illustrations are fun, and the stories are short and interesting.  There are over 200 words for each grade level.

To test how much the kids have learned, there are two build-in quizzes:Grade 7 Word A Day Visual and Audios App

1. Multiple Choices: kids have to choose the correct definition among 3 choices.

2. Unscramble words: kids see the definition of a word, and the letters listed in random order.  They have to put the letters in the correct order to make a word that fits the given definition.  This is a great way to learn the spellings.

iGameMom Comments:

There are quite a few apps offer “Word a Day”, like Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster.  This is the first app I found that is built by grade level.  The funny pictures and the short stories are age appropriate and intriguing, making kids want to learn more.  If you are trying to find a fun way to expand kids vocabulary, Word A Day Visuals and Audios is a good series to get started on.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store button provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The button works for all countries.

    Hello,
I am wondering if the vocabulary app or website is no longer available.
When I clicked on the 6th & 7th grade links but nothing appeared.

I was intrigued with the Word a Day or Vocabahead… (Learn Words Faster and Deeper by Hassan).

If you know the correct link or avenue and are willing to share, that would be great!
    Thank you!

  • Downloaded, thanks! I went for grade seven as my fifth grader is a big reader and pretty smart. We’ll see. I may end up getting the other as well.

    • Good for you! I like the short stories with each word. Kids can learn how the words are used.

  • Thanks for liking our apps and doing this Giveaway. Folks at VocabAhead built these apps. For every word a unique illustration is crafted with a short story line building a rich context. The professionally recorded audio from narrators makes it a joy for kids to learn words. So far these apps have received 5-star ratings. Grade 6 has 1 rating as 1 star but that was because user thought it has only 12 words….each of the apps have 200+ words ..meaning 200+ unique artwork, 200+ audio narrations and 200+ short stories.

    • Thanks for the note. They are great apps, offer an engaging way to improve vocabulary.
