Dr. Seuss Lorax

Lorax – DrSeuss

On my way home, I heard the news that the movie Lorax, based on Dr. Seuss book, was the top film in the U.S. and Canada for a second weekend. In case you are interested in buying the book, I suggest you consider buying the Lorax app instead. It is not just because the App costs $3.99, half the price for the book (just checked on Amazon). The app offers so much more than the paper book.

The app is designed by Oceanhouse Media, a company you can trust. The app maintained the original illustrations, professional narrations and great background audio.

Each single word is highlighted as the narrator reads the story, helping children connect the written with the spoken word. You can tap the text, the whole page will be read again. Unlike most other Oceanhouse Media book apps, you cannot have single word be repeated.

Three ways to use the app:

  • ”Read to Me” – listen to the narrated story with words highlighted as they are read
  • ”Read it Myself” – read the book in its traditional form
  • ”Auto Play” – plays like a movie, automatically reading and turning pages. Great for younger children!

Additional Features:

  • Picture/Word association – words zoom up and are spoken when pictures are touched
  • Professional audio narration
  • Custom background audio for each scene
  • Pages pan & zoom to accentuate the beautiful, original art of Dr. Seuss
  • This ‘Universal App’ is optimized for both iPhone and iPad

iGameMom Comment:

For $3.99, it is a good value. Check it out at App Store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store link provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The link works for all countries.

  • We actually owned the book and read it to our son for about a year…I got crazy creative with recycling projects and Earth Day stuff and then year later we saw the posters for the movie and had to go see it. It was good, my son enjoyed it. It’s definitely an extension of the book very cool.

Thanks for stopping by and reading and liking

    • Thanks for stopping by and sharing your story. The app is a good extension of the book, while first of all, the it is based on a good book.

  • The Lorax was one of my favorite books as a kid. I always liked the “old school” cartoon version too, so I was reluctant to see the new movie, afraid that it might sully one of the cherished stories of my childhood. It wasn’t so bad. Pretty cute, though incredibly political for a kids movie! I do LOVE the OM apps though. We got a “family” kindle for Christmas and that was one of the first apps I loaded. My kids enjoy reading along or being read to. It is absolutely awesome! I have yet to come across an OM app that didn’t hit the mark. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thank you for sharing your experience. It is good to know how others like the app I recommended.

  • What about the movie -thoughts?

  • The Lorax is my favourite Dr Seuss story and this sounds like a wonderful way to introduce children to it. My son adored The Lorax (he’s now 14) we would listen to the disc in the car and read the book. I would definitely buy the app if I had a younger child.

    • Thank you! You have a very informative site too. I will keep reading yours.

  • Thanks for the idea. My littlest granddaughter (and on second thought, maybe my not-so-little granddaughter) would love this.

  • This does sound good. Do you know if there are others like it?

    • Go to Oceanhouse Media site (linked in my blog). They have developed quite a few very good book apps for kids.
