Explore Emotions and Feelings from Interactive Play – Avokiddo Emotions

Avokiddo Emotions

I am always excited when I find a good app teaching kids social skills. On iGameMom, we have reviewed quite a few apps helping kids on emotional wellbeing, such as I Learn with Poko and FeelElectric.  Today I want to share another wonderful app that helps kids explore emotions and feelings.

Avokiddo Emotions is a fun educational app that allows young children to freely explore a wide range of emotions and facial expressions while interacting with three highly responsive animals.

When kids start the app, they can pick one of the three animals they want to play with: the zany zebra, the shy sheep, or the jolly giraffe. They can pick any of the props to dress up the animal with different customs, feed the animal with various food, or play with the animal with all kinds of toys. There are over 100 uniquely themed props for kids to use with endless play ideas. Each time, the animals will show a different facial reaction, and it is up to the kids to decide what they want to do with it – do they want to make the animal happy? Or do they want to surprise the animal? There is no language involved in the app, so kids speaking any language can use the app. It is also great for younger kids who have not acquired enough vocabulary to describe different emotions.

What I like about this app is its open-ended play, and it only relies on visual cues and sound stimuli for conveying information about feelings and emotions. Kids learn about emotions by interacting with the animals. By experimenting and observing, kids will find out that they can delight the zebra by offering him Avokiddo Emotions Appa yummy juice, annoy the sheep by freeing a swarm of flies lying inside a box, or take the giraffe by surprise by blowing a horn in her ear. What a fun way to learn cause and effect relationships between actions and reactions!

How parents can help:
It is highly recommended that parents play together with the kids. While playing together, parents can help kids observe and think by asking some simple questions, such as “Why is the sheep sad?”, “What could you do to make him happy?”, “What would you feel about this?” It will be especially beneficial for younger kids to learn about emotions.

What kids can benefit from the app:
• while playing, kids are encouraged with free imagination and creative expression through unfettered opportunities for pretend play
• practice following directions and answering simple “Wh” questions related to the animals’ responses
• increased curiosity as they explore cause and effect relationships
• build language as parents help children put names to the many emotions and physical reactions displayed
• develop empathy by connecting the animals’ emotions both positive and negative to their causes
• make predictions based on how the animals will respond to various stimuli

Overall, Avokiddo Emotions is a fun interactive app that helps kids learn different emotions caused by their own actions, a great tool to build social and emotional awareness.

Avokiddo Emotions works on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD.  It is also available for Android.  It is $1.99 on App Store and Amazon.
