Free App: Practice Handwriting with Little Writer

Little Writer

Are you kids learning letters and numbers? Are they learning how to write the letters and numbers? If you answer yes, you will like today’s app Little Writer. It is a free app letting kids trace letters and numbers, and practice handwriting. There are also simple words and shapes in the app. The neat feature is adding your own pictures and words.

When kids open the app, they can choose which they want to practice: upper case letter, lower case letter, numbers, shapes, or words. Once they pick the section they want to practice, they will see one item to appear on the screen at a time. They are shown the right letter or number formation, then they are asked to trace the letter or number following the lead of a little animal. Practice Handwriting with fun

For Word section, kids still trace one letter at a time. After they trace all letters in the word, they see the word moving from a corner to the center of the page, and hear the word be read aloud to them.

The app offers many customization features. You can add letters or words, and recording your own voice.  You can also add more letters in case your language has more letters than English. You can have the letters come out in random order, or in alphabetical order. You can over write the readings in the app and record with your own voice.

What can you do with the app?

Practice hand writing. Depend on your child’s level, you can let the child use fingers or a stylus designed for little hands. For information on stylus for kids, please visit How to help kids practice handwriting on iPad.

Practice pronunciation of letters, numbers and simple words. You can record yourself reading all the words, letters and numbers. The self-recording feature allows people whose language is not English to record the correct sound in their own language.

Learn sight words, especially with the feature that users can add words with pictures and sound.

Little Writer is available for iPhone, iPod and iPad. It is FREE on App Store.
