I loved the app Thinkroll. It is a fun physics science game with tons of build-in science concepts. Kids learn science, critical thinking and problem solving while playing the games. Now the sequel Thinkroll 2 is just launched, with similar game set up, but more science concepts, and more challenges and more fun.
There are two sets of the games, one set for age 3 to 5, another set for age 5 to 9. Each set has about 120 games.
The science concepts that are introduced in the app are: gravity, buoyancy, levitation, electricity, density, acceleration. Skills kids need to solve the puzzles include logic, spatial cognition, problem solving, memory, observation and more.
I like how the science concepts and functions are introduced in the Thinkrolls apps. All the abstract science concepts are embodied by fun characters. Built upon the concepts in the first Thinkrolls app, Thinkrolls 2 introduced more fun characters, thus more concepts and functions:
Accordion – use expansion and compression to open pathways, build bridges and create stairways.
Water & Barrel – test theories on what will sink or float to help Thinkrolls avoid water hazards and safely get where they need to go
Egg – experiment with force, acceleration and gravity to walk on eggshells or gently bounce and roll over an intact egg
Fan – give your ball a gravity-defying boost with some aerodynamic lift from a fan
Wormhole – take an out of this world sci-fi trip by selecting the right coordinates or risk getting lost in space as balls magically teleport through maze walls
Battery – save your Thinkroll from a nasty electrical shock by carefully waiting for the circuit to switch off before coming in contact with a battery
Light bulb – enhance visual memory by quickly processing variables and remembering projected moves before the light goes out
The app can track 6 players’ profiles, so each one in the family can keep his/her own progress.
Thinkrolls 2 is available for both Apple devices and Android devices. It is $2.99.
