Interactive App Exploring Frog’s Life Cycle

Rounds Franklin Frog

Rounds: Franklin Frog is a great interactive nonfiction app for toddlers and preschoolers. It explores the life cycle of a frog — including feeding, hibernation, mating, birth, growing from tadpoles, and maturation — in a way that young children can understand and are intrigued to explore more.
What a fun way to learn frog life cycle! This interactive non fiction app for preschool kids tells the story of a frog from hibernation, to mating, to birth, from tadpoles, to maturation to frog. Also included are behaviors like feed, body features like the eyes. All is told by a frog with kids friendly language and tones. Great for school science class or homeschool.
When kids start the app, they will see the frog Franklin sitting on a lily pad greeting them.

On each page of the app, there are some interactive elements waiting for the kids to explore. For example, on the page talking about how frogs move on land, kids will see Franklin jump by swiping a finger on the cute little frog. On the page about how frogs move in water, kids can tap on the frog and lead the frog swimming back and forth to avoid Herons. Each time the kids tap on the frog, the little frog will offer a fun fact related to that page’s content, like “my eyes are on my top, so I can see even when I am swimming”.

The app covers the whole life cycle of the frog, starting from places they live, food they eat, ways to catch food, to hibernating, mating and laying eggs, to changing from tadpoles to frogs, … and then a new cycle begins with a new frog named Fraser…

The design of the app is excellent. All the narration is in children’s voice. The voice is cute yet very clear. The background music fits the theme very well. The pictures are bold and simple. The interaction is plenty but not overwhelming. The overall flow of the app is smooth and at the right pace for a preschool child.

Here is a short video to give you a feel of the app. It is not the same app, but it is an app in the same series from the same developer.

iGameMom Comments:

Many times I found it hard to explain the science concepts to a young child. Rounds: Franklin Frog does a wonderful job in making the facts right yet understandable by a toddler or pre-schooler. The little ones will learn tons of facts about frogs, and have fun at the same time.

It works on iPhone, iPod, and iPAD. It is $4.99 at App Store.

If you would like to check it out or purchase it, please use the App Store button provided below. The cost is the same to you, but iGameMom gets a small percentage. Thanks for your support! Note: The button works for all countries.

It’s never too early to start introducing our kids to science which is really about understanding things around us. Thanks for the chance to win this.

    • I really like what you said – it is never too early to start introducing science to kids. Some times we just assume kids won’t understand it, and don’t even try to explain. This app is a great example to showcase your point.

As a certified teacher, I know science is not an easy concept to teach unless it is relatable, so this app looks like it will make learning the life cycle of a frog fun and easy to understand.

    • I cannot tell how wonderful the design of this app is. It makes the learning so fun and easier. You have to use the app to see for yourself.

Wow! I’m glad you found me so that I could find you! This is a great concept. My son (3yrs 1mth) has just started using online apps and this is a great site. I will be referring to your site a lot!!

    • Great! Thanks for your note. Easy way to find age appropriate apps is to go to the “Age1-3” and “Age3-6” tab on this page. It is above the first post.
