Free App: Nursery Rhymes for Kids

Nursery Rhymes for Kids

All kids love nursery rhymes. They are usually the first songs babies listened and learned, and they stay with the kids for the rest of their lives. Babies never get too many of nursery rhymes. Nursery Rhymes for Kids is an interactive nursery app for babies and toddlers.

With the app, parents and babies can sing and dance with the songs, watch the fun videos, and interact with scenes on the screen. In addition to listening to nursery songs, I have also some learning activity ideas for older kids to improve their fine motor, gross motor skills and early literacy practice. Nursery Rhymes on the go

There are 10 classic nursery songs in the app, 3 are free, and the rest can be added via In-App purchase. While the songs are sang, there are hints on the screen showing where the interactive spots are. If kids tab on those interactive spots, something interesting will happen. For example, if kids touch the leave on the wall where Humpty Dumpty is sitting, the leave will float down to the ground; if they touch the squirrel, the squirrel will run across the screen.

Each song has multiple screens illustrating the story in the song. For this reason, some songs will repeat several times to give kids plenty time to go over all the screens.

A nice feature for older kids is the written lyrics shown at the bottom of the screen and each single word is highlighted following the song.

How to use the app: I can see different ways to use the app based on kids’ age.

1.For very young kids, like babies, you might just let the song play not even show the screen to the babies.

2. For kids 2-3 year-olds, you can start showing the screen to them. To help them recognize the objects on the screen, you can call out some objects and encourage your toddler to touch the called out object. This is also a fine motor skill exercise, as they have to actually tab on the right object to see the interactive reaction of the called out object.

3. For kids 3 and older, parents call start singing the song while pointing at the words at the bottom of the screen. You don’t expect them to recognize the words, but help them understand there are written words for the lyrics in the song.

4. For kids of all ages, put the iPad on the side while the song is playing, and dance to music while acting out the story. It will be a fun activity for gross motor skills.

5. For preschool and kindergarten kids, pick out 2-3 words or a sentence, and have them copy them on paper before listening to the songs. This is a fun early literacy activity.

The ten nursery songs in the app currently: seems there will be more added in the future:
Humpty Dumpty (Free)
Old McDonald Had a Farm (Free)
Itsy Bitsy Spider (Free)
Little Miss Muffet
Wheels on the Bus
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Hickory Dickory Dock
Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill
Twinkle Twinkle Llittle Star
Mary Had a Little Lamb

Nursery Rhymes for Kids works on iPhone, iPod and iPad. It is free to download, with 3 songs free. The rest of the songs are available via In-App Purchase.

  • One of the best things about technology is the fact that it makes it easier for us to entertain and educate our children. It is also nice that so many apps are free so it doesn’t matrter if you don’t like one, you can try another.

    • Yes, the technology makes it a lot easier and more fun in learning. How lucky today’s kids are. 🙂

Each time I get an email from you I am still forwarding them all to my daughter — she has two boys, ages 1 and 8, and this blog is so informative and helpful for these moms who have all the iWhatevers. She just started a Wordpress blog and so maybe now she will follow your blog and always get the latest that way! I appreciate you and your blog!

    • Thank you so much for the kind word and for sharing the reviews with your daughter. It is a great feeling to know others appreciate our work. Thank you!

  • Oh! I wish this were available on the Google Play store or even Kindle. I love the classic nursery rhymes and my son is at that perfect age to really enjoy them. We have books with the nursery rhymes, but he gets even more engaged in apps with interactive features.

    • Thank you very much to iGameMom for the detailed review.

Tonya, the app is available on Google Play Store and Amazon Appstore. Right now 3 songs (1 free, 2 paid) are available there. We are working to add more asap on all platforms.

      • Thanks for the update. I have added the links to Amazon and Google Play.

    • Looks like they just added it to Google Play and Amazon app store, and I added the links. It is currently only 3 songs with one being free. Let’s hope more are coming very soon.
