The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins – Dr.Seuss & A Giveaway

The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins – Dr.Seuss

Oceanhouse Media released a new Dr.Seuss app – The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.  It is on promotion right now.

The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins was first published in 1938. It is one of Dr.Seuss’ earlier books.  The story begins in the Kingdom of Didd, when the King Derwin is passing through a street, where a poor boy Bartholomew Cubbins is standing. Bartholomew removes his hat, following the laws, but another hat instantly appears… The king is mad and tries everything to take Bartholomew’s hat off, including threatening of death.  When Bartholomew thinks he is going to die, the number 500 hat cames! …  Not like other Dr.Seuss book, this one is not in rhyming, but in prose, with the same Seuss style humor.

It is a quite long book for kids.  It took my son almost 30 minutes to finish the book.  It is a good read for kids age 6 to 12.

App Features:The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins by Dr.Seuss App

  • Three ways to read: “Read to Me,” “Read it Myself,” and “Auto Play”
  • Picture / Word association — words zoom up and are spoken when pictures are touched
  • Individual words highlight and are read aloud when tapped
  • Professional audio narration and custom background audio for each scene
  • Pages pan & zoom to accentuate the beautiful, original art of Dr. Seuss
  • This ‘Universal App’ is optimized for Retina displays and the iPad

Now Oceanhouse Media has added new features to their children’s book apps.  The main one is “Recording your own voice”.  You can record your own reading page by page.  Each time when you start reading, you can choose the narration or your own reading.

iGameMom Comment:

I was reading the book review on Amazon and can’t help agreeing with one of the reviewer there.  This book could be a good parenting book – how many times we set unrealistic rules for our kids and forget their capability of following the rules.  While a fun read for kids, we as parents can learn something from the book also.

  • Dr Suess’ books are a fantastic read for kids. Just so out of the ordinary that kids love reading them.

  • Can’t go wrong with a Dr. Seuss book! I don’t think we ever outgrow our enjoyment of ANY Dr. Seuss. Thanks for linking this into the Kid Lit Blog Hop. Your recommendations are always fantastic!

    • Thank you Renee. I find a lot good books at the Kid Lit Blog Hop.

  • Hi, I’m stopping by as part of the Kid Lit Blog Hop. I love Dr Seuss! You can’t go wrong with these books 🙂

    • Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you more! Love Kid Lit Blog Hop too.

  • I love Dr. Seuss, and The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins is a great one!
Thanks for sharing this with the Kid Lit Blog Hop!

    • thanks for stopping by. Love the collection of the posts at Kid Lit Blog Hop.

  • We just read the Dr. Suess ABC’s last night and before that it was Horton Hears a Who, we’re in a bit of a Dr. Suess phase right now and would love a chance at this rarer book you don’t see as often!

    • It is interesting how kids go through phases when picking books or showing interests in books. Yours have good taste, they are all great books!

  • I haven’t read this particular book. I agree that Seuss’s books can be quite long! Thanks for sharing at The Children’s Bookshelf.

    • The Children’s Bookshelf is such a good place to visit. I did not have time to go through all, but will definitely go back again.

  • We went through them all, so now we’re reading The Bippolo Seed, and Other Stories. It’s a posthumous collection perfect for the avid Seuss fans that we are. I never liked rhyming books when I was a kid, so 500 Hats was always my favorite. It’s a wonderful story, and of course the sequel Bartholomew and the Oobleck inspired a whole generation of flubber-scientists.

    • Wow, you are really Seuss fan! All his books are great. We loved all Seuss books we read.

  • Danielle Todorovic

He loves Inside My Outside and would have me reas it every night. I hadn’t heard of it as a kid, but it’s excellent to teach about human biology.

Dr. Suess’s ABC……just this morning (We love Dr. Seuss books in this family and read them on a daily basis!) Thanks for the chance!

Green Eggs and Ham….a classic and a perfect post-breakfast read.

  • Our favorite Seuss book was the Lorax but the last one we read was Blue Fish, Red Fish … beginning reader book 🙂

    • Love Lorax. Have not read Blue Fish, Red Fish for long time – my son has long grown out of it. 🙂

  • Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to buying the app. The last Dr. Sesuss book I read with my girls was “Oh. The Places you will go” I love when they can place these timeless classics on electronic devises. Thanks a million!

    • We read “Oh The Places You Will Go” a while ago. I think I am going to try to read it with son every once awhile. There are so many messages in the book, it can take a while for the kids to fully digest everything.

The last Dr Seuss we read together was the other day – huge fans in our house – it was MgElligot’s Pool on our ipad. It was truly excellent. Would love to check out this new one too. Thanks.

  • Dr. Seuss’s ABC book. I loved this book as a child, had memorized long before my oldest child’s first birthday, and can recite it while I cook dinner and they hold the book and turn the pages. They think I am God-like because I can read or prompt them through a book without ever looking at a page. 😀

  • TM

Hmmm, we read a lot of Dr. Seuss. We love his books. But I think our last one shared was, “Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?” Thank you for this wonderful chance.
