Here is another app good for travel – StoryKit.
What to do with this app:
You can record your journey, or create a story. You can create the story in 4 ways:
- 1. Pictures: either take a photo of your own (using iPhone would make it so easy to load the picture into the app), or select one from your picture library.
- Writing the story by typing in the words.
- Record a sound to go with the page, either a narration of your own, or a sound effect you recorded somewhere that fits the content of the page.
- Paint a picture: you get to choose color and the thickness of the lines.
You can move and resize the picture, text box, and your own drawing to fit everything nicely on one page. You can create as many pages as you want to.
Once a book is finished, you can choose to keep it local in your app for yourself to read; or you can share the book with friends and family via email. Once you click share, you will be asked to enter an email address where you want the book be sent to. The person who receives the email will see a link that leads to your book. The sound will be lost during the sharing process, but everything else – picture, drawing, and text will be retained.

This is an app that fosters kids’ creativity. It can be a good tool to help the kids keep a vacation journey. It can be also a good app for kids to practice writing, drawing, singing, … to write their own books. You can even write a book together with your child.

For storybook making, I also use a free amazing website called storybird.com – with platforms for individuals and class accounts for teacher use.

I used storybird.com before. My son made a couple books. Only thing is you have to pick the art works from their library. sometimes, we could not find the art style that fits the story we want to tell. Nevertheless, it is a good site. I was thinking about the site while writing this post. Thanks for mentioning it.

As a writer and lover of kid’s books, I love this! Right now, we use crayons to illustrate, dictation to write (I copy their stories verbatim at the bottom of the pages), and staples (well, *I* staple) their construction paper story books together. Someday in the not-too-distant future, though, we’ll be ready for this! Thanks for keeping me up to date on these things. Without you I would still be living in the Paleozoic era along with the trilobites. (21st century version: trilobytes?)
With this app, you can take photoes of the kids’ art, and have them read their own writtings, is it cool?
