Puzzingo is a fun puzzle game for toddlers and preschoolers. There are so many puzzle apps out there, I pick this one out because it is a little different – it incorporates the language learning into the puzzle play. While playing, kids develop their fine motor skills and learn word recognition at the same time.
It is a free app with In-App Purchase options for more theme packages. Come with the free download, there is one package with 5 themes: Jungle animals, Sand Castle, Picnic, Barn, and Car. Within each theme, kids pick the picture from the right panel to fit into the shape in the scene. When kids pick up a picture, the name of the object is read aloud, so kids can repetitively hear the words be read to them when they play the puzzles.
In addition to the free package, the app also offers a daily preview of a theme, so kids can play something different every day. Some themes available for purchase are: Zoo animals, holiday, Space. They are $1.99 each. The developers are adding new themes regularly.
When a child finishes a puzzle, he/she will be rewarded to a mini-game, which is really fun. Based on the introduction on the app store, the visual and audio cues throughout the apps are specially designed to make the game accessible by young and special needs children. I can see their effort from some small details. For example, kids have to slide the exit button to get out of the app, while many other apps just need a tap. For purchase more themes, you have to do a simple math problem to get to the purchase screen. These are small features, but you can tell the developers really put in a lot thoughts about child-safety and child-proof into the design.
Puzzingo works on iPhone, iPod and iPAD. It is Free to download with a free package of puzzles. Additional theme packages are available via In-App purchase for $1.99 each.
